Martin J. McHugh

Chief of Operations

Martin McHugh has extensive experience in remote sensing and scientific data analysis. He has worked on high-profile satellite remote sensing programs for both NASA and the DoD for over 25 years.

Early in his career, Mr. McHugh worked as a Research Physicist for the Naval Research Lab, where he developed algorithms and concepts for next-generation satellite-based surveillance. His focus there was on advanced target detection techniques and physical modeling of infrared systems. After 10 years at NRL, he came to GATS where he applied these skills to the emerging problems in the atmospheric science community, working on the HALOE, SABER, ACE and AIM missions. He has deep experience in technical software development and is the architect of the popular SpectralCalc website, a resource used by thousands of scientists and teachers around the world.

Martin holds BS degrees in Mathematics and Physics, and a MS degree in Physics, all from Wake Forest University. In his current role as Chief Operating Officer, he oversees operations at GATS, supervises several technical teams and leads the company’s business development efforts. Meanwhile, he remains active as a research scientist, and regularly contributes formal publications, reviews and invited presentations.
